An Italy location proxy, or Italy proxy for short, is a proxy that sends your request out from an IP address in Italy. The target site sees you as a visitor connecting from Italy; it shows the price in euros, the search result according to Google.it and the ads according to the campaign running in Italy. What matters is that Italy is in the provider's country list and, if possible, that it publishes how many IPs it has there. - **City and region breakdown.** In Italy prices and results change from north to south. On the ISP side a shared IP starts at 0.47 dollars per month and comes down to 0.30 dollars, and a dedicated IP starts at 3.33 dollars and comes down to 2.50 dollars. On the datacenter side a dedicated IP is sold in only five countries — the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Japan — and Italy is not among those five; Italy appears only in the shared datacenter list. In Italy pricing, shipping zones and ad campaigns change between north and south: a campaign seen from Milan may not show in Naples, and a regional retailer's stock page points to a different store depending on the visitor's region. That is why, if you are going to set up a multi-city measurement, you have to sample cities such as Rome, Milan, Naples, Turin and Florence separately and then compare them in a single table. The second layer is the network. Every IP block is registered to an autonomous system number, and that record is public. Most of Italy's fixed-line traffic passes through [AS3269 TIM](https://www.peeringdb.com/asn/3269) and [AS12874 Fastweb](https://www.peeringdb.com/asn/12874); WindTre's network is registered as [AS1267](https://bgp.he.net/AS1267). If one of those networks appears in the `org` record of the address in your hands, the target site sees it as the subscriber of an access provider; if a hosting company comes up in the record, then whatever the product you bought is called, it is a datacenter address. If the first three octets of the twenty addresses you bought are the same, they are all in a single [/24 block](https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc4632), and the target site usually applies the block to the range rather than to a single address; then one address's mistake takes all twenty down at once. Ask the provider for addresses from different blocks and, if possible, from different ASNs, and check the list you receive yourself. The first is that it is not clear who runs the server: you hand your traffic to an intermediary and you cannot know what that intermediary records. Requests that are not encrypted can be read through it, session information included. The second is that those addresses are already worn out. Because thousands of people use the same IP, target sites blacklisted them long ago; on Italian marketplaces you usually get a verification screen on the first request. The third is that the measurement is dirty: because it is not verified which city and which network the address exits from, the price or ranking data you collect is not comparable.
